The name is a combination of many family tributes. Taking to her official Instagram account, Princess Eugenie released 4 pictures of their new-born son that were taken by her midwife. In a touching message she thanked the essential workers while sharing the joyful moment.

Eugenie wrote:

We wanted to introduce you to August Philip Hawke Brooksbank.. 💙💙💙⁣  ⁣Thank you for so many wonderful messages. Our hearts are full of love for this little human, words can't express. We are excited to be able to share these photos with you.⁣

The Royal Family made a similar announcement on their Twitter account that said, "Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank have announced that they have named their son August Philip Hawke Brooksbank. The couple have been touched by the well wishes they have received on the birth  of their first child, and are delighted to share this first photo as a family."

Talking about the meanings of the name Eugenie shared another post in Insta story, "On his grandfather’s birthday weekend, thinking of my grandfather, we are introducing our little boy. He is named after his great grandfather and both of his great x5 grandfathers."
 
Baby is named August after great 5x grand father on Eugenie’s side - Queen Victoria’s Husband Prince Albert whose middle name was Augustus. Philip is chosen as a tribute to Eugenie's own Grandfather, The Duke of Edinburgh and Hawke was the name of great 5x grand father on Jack’s side - Rev Edward Hawke Brooksbank.

Sharing her delight on the news, Eugenie's mother, Sarah, The Duchess of York tweeted, "As Grandparents, The Duke and I are thrilled and blessed at the arrival of our grandson August Philip Hawke Brooksbank. He is a beautiful blessing and a bringer of such love and joy to all our Family. I am so proud of Jack and Eugenie, they are and will be wonderful parents".
