The Royal Monday – May 03 : Queen Letizia, Queen Mathilde and Crown Princess Mary

Monday was a bit of a relaxing day. Usually, this time around the year is one of the busiest royal periods ahead of the summer break, but COVID-19 has changed the normals. Today we saw three Royal Ladies out and about:

Crown Princess Mary, the captain of the Home Guards, visited the Jonstruplejren in Ballerup where soldiers from the Home Guard and personnel from the Danish Emergency Management Agency are helping in the contact tracing unit.

Later on, the future Queen of Denmark visited the joint authority hotline where soldiers from the Home Guard and health professionals from the National Board of Health resolve the queries and general questions about COVID- 19 from citizens daily from 6 am until midnight.

Queen Mathilde of Belgian, the patron of the Queen Elisabeth Piano Competition, inaugurated the 2021 competition today. 58 pianists from 16 different countries participate in the first round. The semi-finals will take place from May 10 to 15. The week of the final is from May 24 to 29.

Sitting in front of a portrait of Queen Elisabeth in the music room of the Palace, Queen said, “Music is an important source of peace, inspiration, and distraction for many of us today. Very pleased that the Queen Elisabeth Competition for piano starts from today with 58 pianists from 16 different countries.”

In other news, Queen Letizia joined her husband King Felipe and daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia for an Opera night out. The family watched ‘Peter Grimes’, at The Royal Theatre in Madrid and showed support to the Cultural sector that had gotten the worst hit during the pandemic and now opening back slowly.
