The most famous Royal Woman of the 20th century – Diana, The Princess of Wales, do you know where she was born? We all know Lady Di was born on July 01st in 1961, but where?
Diana was born at the Park House – a property on The Queen’s Sandringham Estate in Norfolk. The Park house was built by Edward VII when he was The Prince of Wales. Who would have thought at this property a Princess of Wales would be born.
Diana’s maternal grandfather Edmund Roche, 4th Baron Fermoy, was a close friend of King George V. He got the Park house on lease in the 1930s from The King where Frances Roche was born – Diana’s mother.
Frances married Viscount Althorp, John Spencer, in 1954 at Westminster Abbey. Their wedding was attended by the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and other members of the Royal family as guests. The couple took over the lease of the property from Frances parents. The family stayed at the Park house until 1975 when John became the Earl and moved to his seat and family home Althorp.
Lady Diana was christened at the St. Mary Magdalene Church, where Princess Charlotte was christened in 2015 and The Royal family visits every Christmas. The beach that we saw in the recent Cambridge Family video was the playground for little Diana.
In 1983, Her Majesty the Queen gave the birthplace of Princess Diana to a charity ‘ Leonard Cheshire Disability’ which converted the house into a hotel for disabled people. The Queen officially opened the hotel in 1987.
