The second lockdown for primary schools took effect on December 16, 2020. The impact of the physical closure was major. The schools had to switch back to distance education in a short time. In addition, there are concerns about educational disadvantages and about the well-being of students, teachers and staff.

CBS Sabina van Egmond has 350 students, 46 employees and 15 groups, spread over two locations. The school works with unit education: not in year groups, but in four units, teachers and teaching assistants provide the education for the students. During the lockdown, the school remained open for emergency shelter (children of parents with crucial professions) and for vulnerable children, for whom the teacher knew that homeschooling was not a good solution for these children.

During her visit, Queen Máxima spoke to teachers about the organization of distance learning, the reopening of the school and the new starting situation of the students. In addition, Queen Máxima visited group 3 and online groups 5 and 6, where she spoke with the teachers and students about the digital class period during the second lockdown and about being allowed to go back to school.
