The 99 years old The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, was admitted to the King Edward VII Hospital in London, on Tuesday evening. Releasing the information on Wednesday morning, Buckingham Palace said,

“The Duke’s admission is a precautionary measure, on the advice of His Royal Highness’s Doctor, after feeling unwell. The Duke is expected to remain in hospital for a few days of observation and rest.”

The Duke of Edinburgh who is said to be in “Good Spirit” traveled by car from Windsor Castle to the King Edward VII Hospital and walked in unaided. Palace confirmed that his illness is not related to COVID-19. From BBC’s Report,

The palace is pretty protective of the privacy of members of the Royal Family when it comes to health issues; those hoping for running commentary are invariably disappointed. But palace spokespeople have gone out of their way to emphasise that this was not an emergency admission and that it was precautionary.

The duke has been in and out of hospital a bit over the past few years, most recently just before Christmas in 2019 when he had treatment for a pre-existing medical condition. But overall his later years were marked by his health and energy; he gave up smoking the day he married the Queen; he has never drunk heavily and was for decades a keen sportsman, driving himself constantly to stay fit and strong when others might have been tempted to take it easy.

The last time he was seen in public he seemed in good health, standing unaided – and he walked into hospital on Tuesday evening, having travelled there by car.

British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, sent his best wishes. A No 10 spokesperson said: “The Prime Minister sends his best wishes to the Duke of Edinburgh as he undergoes a few days of rest in hospital.”

Prince Philip, who is famously called ‘ The Iron Duke’, will be celebrating his 100th birthday on June 10 this year. He retired from the public service in 2017 after serving the Nation for more than 70 years. He stepped out in 2020 for a very rare public engagement at Windsor Castle when he passed the role of Colonel-in-Chief of The Rifles Regiment to The Duchess of Cornwall.

Her Majesty The Queen and The Duke are living together at the Windsor Castle since the lock down in 2020. Philip was living at the Royal Lodge in Norfolk since her retirement but moved to Windsor Castle to be with his wife for the period of isolation where they spent the Christmas together away from the family members in December.

I wish a very speedy recovery to our handsome Iron Duke!
